Ramadan is the 9th month of Islamic calendar. Ramzan is one of the religious festivals of the Islamic community which is widely celebrated all over the world. Ramadan includes fasting; it is one of the five fundamentals of Islam. It means Abstinence (Perhez). Holy Ramadan is the month of fasting, intensive prayer, sacrifice and Divine worship. During this month, Muslims try to read the Quran, the holy scripture of Islam, as much as possible. The last 10days of Ramadan Muslims indulge in intense prayers with the belief that they will get closer to god. According to Quran, the 21th, 23th, 25th, 27th and 29th night are known as Lailat ul-Qadr or the Night of Power. The Muslims spend almost this entire night in prayers in these nights.
Ramadan is the 9th month of Islamic year. It came after Shaban. Muslims wait for this month whole year and prepare themselves for the Ramadan. In Ramadan ALLAH shower his mercy and forgiveness on people and Muslims do fasting in this month for 30 days. There are so many verses of Quran about Ramadan. Following are some Hadith and Verses which tells us the importance of Ramadan.
Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Whoever recites only one ‘Ayah’ in Holy Ramadan, he will be awarded as if he has recited the full Quran in other months”.
Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from ALLAH then all his previous sins will be forgiven.”
Hazrat Sahel bin Saad (R.A) said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “Heaven has eight doors and one of them is Bab_ur_Rayyan from which only those people will pass who fast in Ramadan.”
Hazrat Abuhurairah radiallao anho said that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “when the month of Ramadan came the gates of heaven are opened and the gated of hell are closed and the devils are chained.”
Surah Al-Bakra (2:185) “Ramadan is a month in which was sent down the Quran as a guide to mankind, also clear signs for guidance and judgment between right and wrong. So all of you who is present during that month should spend it in fasting”.
“Ramadan is a month whose beginning is mercy, whose middle is forgiveness and whose end is freedom from the fire.”
Ramadan is the most precious month in the Islamic calendar (Hijri) and it is obligatory for the Muslims to fast in the month of Ramadan. Here are some interesting and quick points that shows the importance of Ramadan in Islam.
•           Allah has made fasting this month the fourth Pillar of Islam
•           Allah revealed the Quran in this month
•           Allah has made Laylat al-Qadr (The Night of Decree/Power) in this month, which is better than a thousand months
•           Allah has made fasting Ramadan and spending its nights in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward a means of forgiveness of sins
•           In this month, Allah opens the gates of Paradise and closes the gates of Hell, and chains up the devils
•           Every night Allah has people whom He redeems from the Fire
•           Fasting Ramadan is a means of expiation for the sins committed since the previous Ramadan, so long as one avoids major sins
•           Fasting in Ramadan is equivalent to fasting ten months
•           Whoever prays Qiyaam in Ramadan with the Imaam until he finishes, it will be recorded for him that he spent the whole night in prayer
•           Umra’h in Ramadhaan is equivalent to Hajj
•           It is Sunnah to observe I’tikaaf (retreat for the purpose of worship) in Ramadan
•           It is Mustahabb in the sense of being strongly recommended in Ramadan to study the Quran together and to read it to a great deal

•           It is Mustahabb in Ramadan to offer Iftaar to those who are fasting.
